Your family's information
Privacy policy
Updated September 19, 2026
AR Family Book Scanner is a tool for parents to find books and organize children's reading. Children do not need accounts. This policy describes the app and this support website.
Reading records stay on your device
Child nicknames, optional ages, interests, reading preferences, monthly book goals, saved books, reading dates, and library loans are stored on the device. Recent scans and any saved library-tag links are also kept locally. The app does not upload these records or use them for advertising. Search keywords derived from interests may be used to find books, as described below.
iOS device backups may include local app data. JSON backups, CSV exports, and PDF reports are files you choose to save or share. They can contain family information; keep them somewhere private.
Scanning and recommendations
Camera text recognition takes place on the device. On supported devices, Apple's on-device language model can help interpret a book cover or refine a recommendation request. Book title and author words recognized from a cover, typed queries, ISBNs, and book subject keywords derived from preferences can be sent to our catalog API on Cloudflare and to Open Library to find matching books. Camera images, child nicknames, ages, complete recommendation prompts, and reading or loan histories are not sent with those requests.
Connections to other services
- Book cover images may be requested from Open Library. These requests contain an ISBN or an existing catalog image URL. The provider also receives the technical information needed to serve an internet request, such as your IP address. Child profile information is not included.
- Our Cloudflare catalog stores independently sourced book metadata and cached audience estimates. To prepare an estimate, our server sends a book’s title, author, series, format, page count, and description to TypeSafe Jev. It does not send child profiles, reading histories, or camera images. Audience results are shared across requests for the same book. Rate limiting uses a temporary hash of the network address, expiring after an hour; search-result caches expire after one day. We do not intentionally log search text or full network addresses in application logs. Infrastructure providers still receive the technical data needed to serve requests.
- Opening an Amazon link sends the book's ISBN or title and author to Amazon. Approved affiliate links may also contain our referral tracking ID, with a commission disclosure beside the link. Child profile information is not included.
- Apple processes Family Plus payments, purchase restoration, refunds, and eligible Family Sharing. The app checks Apple-verified purchase information to enable paid features. We do not receive payment-card details.
These services handle their own requests under their privacy policies. AR Family Book Scanner contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDK and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Notifications and permissions
Camera and library-tag access support scanning. Optional return reminders are scheduled locally after you request them and grant notification permission. Reminder text shows book counts, without child names or book titles. You can change permissions in iPhone Settings.
Delete, back up, or move your data
In Library settings, deleting a child removes that profile's saved books, reading dates, and loans. Recent scan history can be cleared separately. Back up or export records in Library settings. Restoring a backup replaces that device's library. Delete copies of exported files separately. Removing the app deletes its local data; copies in device backups or files you saved are managed separately.
Family Sharing shares the purchase, not reading records. Records do not automatically synchronize between devices.
This website and support
This website uses no analytics scripts, advertising pixels, forms, or cookies set by us. Its hosting provider receives normal network requests. If you email support, we receive the contact information and message you choose to send and use them to answer your request. Please avoid including children's names, school details, or reading histories.
App license
The app uses Apple’s standard Terms of Use (EULA). Family Plus is a one-time purchase with no recurring subscription.
